A new technique learned

So recently we went to the 2009 annual Florida Professional Photographers convention in Orlando and had learned some great new things! One of which was HDR and was taught by Randy Van Duinen who is a great Architectual photographer located in the Tampa Bay Area. After returning from Orlando we wanted to try out this new technique and here are just a few images that we did over the weekend.

Putting your BEST FACE Forward

A guide to making your senior session fun and your senior portraits Awesome!

~ How to look your best! ~

Portraits are best when the viewer's eye is drawn to your face.  Unless you choose your clothing carefully, it's possible for the viewers eye to be diverted to the clothing.

~ Close-Up Portraits ~

For your yearbook picture or other head-and-shoulders or close-up poses, dress in something very simple both in color and style.  Boys can choose a suit, sport coat or sweater.  For girls, a plain dress, sweater or blouse with a simple neckline is best.  Both boys and girls should wear long sleeves to keep the eye from being drawn to the flesh of the arms.

~ Clothing Color & Style Make the Difference! ~

Proper clothing allows the face to dominate the portrait, with all other elements being secondary.  Against a medium or dark background, colors that photograph best for the yearbook portrait and other close-up poses are medium to dark tones of green, brown, rust, wine, or blue.  Darker shades are more slimming.

~ Informal poses and special styles tell the world who you are! ~

Informal portraits invite much more variety in clothing color and style.  Girls can choose a favorite sports outfit, dress, prom dress, shorts, jeans outfit--the clothes you really enjoy.  Possible choices for boys include a suit, jeans outfits, a casual or sports outfit, or a school or other jacket.  Bring extra outfits, and we'll help you choose!

-Black or dark colors are a good choice for black and white portraits or for a dramatic look.

~ Express yourself and your world! ~

If you have a hobby, then bring it along!  Musical instruments, art supplies, theatrical garb, cheer leading or athletic uniforms, bad uniforms, stuffed animals, skateboards, pets, girlfriends, boyfriends, and buddies have a portrait to remember!

~ Enjoy...the fun of an Outdoor Session ~

Bring a casual outfit that will blend with natural outdoor settings.  Earth tones are and excellent choice.   Also remember that simple styles photograph best.

If you have an outdoor hobby or interest--backpacking or jogging for example--bring your gear.  We'll also be happy to photograph you with your car, bike, or motorcycle.

~ Planning for your session ~

Hair
Don't try a new hairstyle just for your session, and have your hair cut around a week before your session is scheduled.

Skin Problems
Don't worry if you develop a skin problem.  Our finished portraits can be fully retouched to eliminate blemishes and soften harsh lines.

Glasses
Problems with glasses can lead to extra retouching charges.  We can remove normal glare on glasses, but tinted lenses cannot be lightened--even with artwork.  If your glasses are tinted or exceptionally thick, they can distort the way the camera photographs the eye.   In this case, you should ask your optometrist for a pair of empty frames to wear for your portrait session.  If you have any questions regarding your glasses or extra retouching charges on glasses, please contact us.

Tanning
Removing tan or sunburn lines will incur additional retouching charges.

For Girls...
Makeup can affect the way your portrait looks.  Both fresh, natural makeup or "evening" makeup photograph well. Call  727.459.4594 if you have any questions.

For Guys...
A fresh shave is a must!  If you have a beard or mustache, make sure that is trimmed to your liking.

~ Q&A's ~

What time should I arrive for my portrait session?
Arrive about 10 minutes early.  You'll be more relaxed, and your session can be completed on schedule.

What will my session be like?
In a word... FUN!  You might be a little nervous at first, but not for long.  Our friendly atmosphere will have you relaxed in no time!

Can I bring a friend to watch?
Of course.  If it will help you feel more relaxed, bring a friend or parent along.

When do I decide what portraits I want to order?
After you have seen your portraits in our complementary projection.  You may then place your order.  Please have all decision makers present at this time.

What id my parents and I like different poses?
No problem!  We create plenty of poses to please both you and your parents.  You can order from as many poses as you wish.

Can I order additional portraits later?
Certainly.  But be sure to order plenty of wallets with your initial order to avoid reorder charges.

Any more questions?
Call during our regular office hours Mon-Sat 9am -5pm at 727.459.4594

Creating a Timeless Portrait

A Guide To making portraits that touch the heart and decorate the home.
Planning the best decorative investment you'll ever make...
...an investment in yourself and your family's heritage.

~ About clothing, color, tone, and style ~
When more than one person is to appear in the portrait, or when a special stylistic effect is desired , clothing and prop choices can make or break a portrait.

~ Skin tone considerations ~
Whether working with light or dark complexions, the objective always is for the face to dominate the portrait. Accordingly, skin highlights must be the lightest, brightest, or most intense areas of the portrait. So when a medium to dark background is used, all subjects photograph best in medium to dark tones, whatever the skin tone.

~ Clothing for small groups ~
Couples or small groups should choose simple garments within the same tonal ranges. When subjects appear in a mixture of light and dark tones together, there is a visual confusion--as the light color comes forward, and the dark color recedes. When this happens, one person becomes dominant and appears heavier than in reality.

~ Clothing for families ~

In a family group proper clothing coordination is critical. When decorating a home, a major concern is to coordinate the colors and tones of the walls, carpets, drapes, and furniture. Similar coordination is necessary when selecting clothing for a group portrait. Choose clothing in the same tonal ranges so that no single member of the family stands out because the clothing is too light or bright compared to the rest of the group.

~ Clothing for individuals ~

The goal of any fine portrait is to direct the viewer's eye to the face(s) in the portrait. All other elements should be secondary. For individuals, simple long-sleeved garments in medium to dark tones of brown, gray, burgundy, green or blue are pleasing choices when photographed against a medium or dark background.

~ Tips on preparing for your successful portrait ~

~ Turtle necks or V-necks are flattering provided that neither exaggerated in style. Avoid very wide or particularly deep V-neck garments or bulky cowl neck sweaters that completely hide the neck.

~ For close-up portraits, long sleeves are essential for teens and adults, as bare arms call attention to themselves and will overpower the face.

~ Woman being photographed in full length should wear long skirts, pants or dark stockings in order to keep the eye from being directed toward the legs and away from the face.

~ If feet are to show in the portrait, assure that shoes and stockings are in keeping with the visual intent of the portrait.

~ Men should be clean shave or facial hair should be carefully groomed, with their hair cut about one week before the portrait session. Woman should be photographed whenever they are happiest with their hair in relation to the time it was styled.

~ Creating style and personality ~

Our goal is to create portraiture as individual as the subjects we photograph. Our tools include various styles, techniques, and settings that make each portrait a unique artwork.

~ Decorating with portraits ~

Giving life to your personal art work begins with a planning session, during which you and the photographer or design consultant can explore your ideas and discuss creative possibilities.

When the finished work is on display in your home or office, it will serve as both a tasteful reflection of your individualized decorating style and a tribute to the ones you love.

Decorating with Portraiture

A guide To enhancing your home and office with photographic portraiture
Planning the best decorative investment you'll ever make...
...an investment in yourself and your family's heritage.

~ DESIGNING FOR IMPACT ~

The placement of portraits in relation to the room's furnishings is critical when their purpose is to create a dramatic decorative focal point. Whether the artwork is the central component of a room concept or an isolated accessory, all of the elements of design----style, color, size, and framing or mounting---must work together to complete the creative statement.

~ SELECTING A STYLE ~

The decorative intent of the room in which you plan to display portraiture will set the design tone for the portrait and help in your selection of clothing and setting.

~ ACHIEVING COLOR HARMONY ~

The portrait's overall color theme should blend with or complement the room's color palette. Carefully chosen clothing and background elements can add richness to the rooms color scheme.

~ DETERMINING SIZE ~

An appropriate;y sized wall portrait is one that dominates the space in which it is hung, but does not appear to crowed that space. When planning an individual portrait or collection of images to be hung together, be sure to establish whether the space lends itself better to a vertical or horizontal composition.

Portraits are appropriate as focal points in both public and private rooms, so display them where you, your family and your guests can enjoy.

We at Jfanphoto value our clients that is why we offer a complementary sizing session to help you design that perfect room in your home or office.

~ DESIGNING WITH CREATIVITY ~

Today's portrait photographers possess a wealth of artistic techniques that range from softening edges and adding text to creating photographic watercolors and color-tinted images. With each new technique comes a new opportunity for decorative creativity.

~ DISPLAYING PORTRAITURE IN YOUR HOME AND OFFICE ~

Today discerning families are choosing to preserve their heritage and commemorate their lifestyles in photographic portraits that serve as decorative focal points in their homes and offices. When portraiture is a primary design element, it makes the decor of any location you choose more personalized and cheerful, or even more dramatic.

~ CHOOSING A SUBJECT MATTER ~

Portrait images communicate how we feel about ourselves, our world, and those closest to us. Their subject matter and settings are limited only by imagination: children as they grow, family times or events, artistic personal statements---all are appropriate subjects for decorative portraiture.

We offer portrait sessions in studio, in your home, in a park, or on the beach. Wherever you choose to have your portrait created we can cater to just that.

Your precious family photographs-- new or old, original or restored--can become treasured heirlooms and decorative accents when creatively displayed in your home.

Because they reveal something about the character or the interests of the individuals who work there, portraits personalize the decor of the office environments as well as enhance the enjoyment of those who work or visit there.

~ PLANNING YOUR ART WORK ~

Giving life to your personal artwork begins with a planning session, during which you and the photographer at Jfanphoto explore your ideas and discuss creative possibilities.

When the finished work is on display in your home or office, you will find that it serves as both tasteful reflection of your individualized decorating style and a tribute to the ones you love.
